Painting with Plants

The plant and stone palette of this suburban front yard was thoughtfully chosen to reflect the artist client's love of color, painting its contrasts and harmonies. While replacing a thirsty lawn with low-water plants, the landscape also had to satisfy the water needs of an existing Liriodendron (Tulip Tree). The planting incorporates a zone of plants of medium-water needs, while the other 2/3 of the yard uses low or very low water plants. So far this eastern American native tree seems well-adjusted to  its new watering regimen, and the showiest plants in the yard are the low water characters!
